Our Story

Haydn & Erika purchased the property on Pipeclay Lane, a little out of Mudgee, over 2 years ago. And after a last-minute decision which saw them on an adventure of a lifetime they took on the already established Olive Nest and 1838 Wines and now enjoy the property with their two kids & horses.

They come with a wealth of knowledge and a strong background in farming. Previously running certified Organic Murray Grey Cattle and Garlic on their family property in Dorrigo NSW. The property is now runs cattle on agistment and Haydn’s parents call this place home.

Haydn and Erika work very closely with their chosen winemaker, Jacob Stein, and have completed two very successful vintages with the most recent success taking Gold and the trophy for Best Rose in show at the Annual Mudgee wine show of 2018. They are now well on their way to the next. They are proud of the fruit they harvest which is transported right next door. This means that all is grown and produced on Pipeclay Lane.

At 1838 Wines, they operate one of the smallest commercial vineyards in Mudgee. The vineyard produces a generous quantity of grapes each year which are unique to the location of the property. They have 3 varieties of red wine grapes in Durif, Merlot & Shiraz and 2017 saw the first vintage harvest of Pinot Gris.

The Olive Nest is also home to 1400 olive trees of mixed Italian & Greek varieties. The Olives are pressed on site to produce the freshest possible Extra Virgin Olive Oil. Our Extra Virgin Oil has won multiple awards and their first press of Kalamata Oil received a Bronze at the 2017 Australian food awards.
